Duke
Power information center promotes awareness of nuclear energy through video
games and films. Catawba Nuclear Station is a two-unit power plant located on
Lake Wylie, near York, S.C. Each of its units can generate electricity at the
rate of 1,129 megawatts. Catawba unit 1 began commercial operation in 1985 and
unit 2 in 1986.
From
Rock Hill or Charlotte, take exit 82 of I-77 and follow SC-161 to SC-274 (at
Newport); turn right on SC-274 and continue to the display center (beside the
Catawba Nuclear Station at the south end of Lake Wylie) .
