AREA ATTRACTIONS

Visitors' Center - From I-81 take exit 165-B if northbound, or exit 165 if southbound, to head northbound on PA-309-Business (Wilkes- Barre Township Blvd). Follow PA-309, toward downtown, to the intersection of Northampton Street. Turn left and follow Northampton to Main Street and turn right. The Luzerne County Convention and Visitors Bureau is at 56 Public Square which is about 1 block from Main Street (on the far side of the square).

Lion Brewery - View a well establish and highly respected area brewery. Tours are only conducted on Saturdays at 1p. You must make an appointment (by phone or e-mail) and get confirmation but this is a very simple matter. Please see their web site for details and rules about foot apparel: Touring.

  From I-81 take exit 170-B and follow PA-309 (this is the Cross Valley freeway) to the exit 2 (Wilkes-Barre Blvd). At the end of the off-ramp, turn left and go to Conyngham Avenue (it will be the first traffic light to the west of the freeway). Turn right, cross the tracks and turn right again onto Pennsylvania Avenue. The Brewery is just past the tracks at 700 N. Pennsylvania Avenue.

Luzerne County Museum - Features a permanent exhibit of Native American artifacts - ranging from stone implements of the Archaic period to the archeological evidence of European influence. Another permanent exhibit features a timbered coal mine gangway and its mine railway car plus displays describing the history of anthracite mining.
  Open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4p; Saturdays from 10a to 4p. Admission: FREE!

The Museum is in the Historical Society Building at 69 South Franklin Street - on your left about 80 yards from the intersection.

Stock Car Racing Experience - Now here is an opportunity for a unique experience. Get behind the wheel of a Stock Car and drive it around the 2.5 mile Tri-Oval at the Pocono Raceway. Programs range from a 3-lap drive to an 80 mile drive with prices starting at $99.

  From I-81 northbound, exit onto I-80 eastbound and then take I-80 exit 284 (Richard Petty exit). Turn right onto PA-115 and follow it to Pocono Raceway -Gate #1 Tunnel entrance - about 3 miles from I-80.
  From I-81 southbound exit onto I-380 southbound and follow it to exit 3 (Mount Pocono). Exit and follow the signs to the Pocono Raceway.
  From Wilkes-Barre, follow PA-115 to Pocono Raceway (Gate #1 Tunnel entrance) - about 17 miles from I-81 exit 170.

Audubon's Lehigh Auto Tour - If you enjoy viewing birds and other wildlife, the Audubon Society has prepared a special auto tour. It is a 53-mile loop circling the area between I-81 and I-476, south of I-80.
