World Trade Center
'Ground Zero'

site is on the west side of Lower Manhattan on a super-block bounded by Vesey, Liberty, Church and West Streets

Situated on a 16-acre site adjacent to 'Battery Park City' in downtown New York City, the 'twin towers' (as they quickly became known) were, briefly, the tallest buildings in the world. Actually a complex of seven buildings. the World Trade Center was an ambitious project and set many 'firsts'. For a brief history of the WTC, see: World Trade Center 'Ground Zero' is the name given to the site upon which the twin towers stood. The non-stop effort of removing the debris from the infamous '9-11' tragedy will result in a 16-acre hole extending some 70 feet down to bedrock. A special platform has been constructed at Broadway & Fulton Streets for viewers of 'Ground Zero'.

NOTE: Tickets are no longer required for access to the viewing platform.  To get to the area take the E train to the World Trade Center stop; then the N/R to Rector Street; 4/5/6 to Wall Street; or 1/2/3 to Chambers Street.
