In 1998, New York City celebrated its centennial. Many people seem to think that staying across the river in New Jersey is less expensive; it isn't. There are good hotels on Manhattan for less than $40/night; there are many in the $60-80 range. Plus, staying in Manhattan gives you better access to better transportation and at less cost. Park your car at the hotel when you arrive and forget about it until you leave.
