In 1998, New York City celebrated its centennial. "What about New Jersey hotels?"
Many people seem to think that staying across the river in New Jersey is less expensive; it isn't. There are good hotels on Manhattan for about $240/night; there are many in the $250-280 range. Plus, staying in Manhattan gives you better access to better transportation and at less cost. Park your car at the hotel (check if your hotel charges an extra parking fee; most do) when you arrive and forget about it until you leave. You DON'T want to drive in Manhattan.
