City Hall
at Broadway and Park Row (downtown)

The City Hall of New York City is actually the third city hall this great city has had. The current structure was originally completed in 1812 but has undergone many reconstructions and restorations since. Fires, water leakage through its many roofs, modifications required to update the building to newer standards - all have taken their toll. Several years ago a major reconstruction of the roof was undertaken. The famous cupola was replaced with one of reinforced fiberglass sheathed in copper to look like the original copper dome but more impervious to the elements. Additionally, much of the statuary and other ornamentation was restored. Yes, New York's City Hall is very much a tourist attraction.
