Lake
Compounce
|
| With
its beginnings reaching back to 1846 when it opened as a 'picnic park'
with a large gazebo which became the center for some rather famous band
concerts, this beautiful lakeside play area grew into an amusement park -
actually the oldest, continually operating, amusement park in the United
States. Popularity grew rapidly and more entertainment facilities were added: its famous 1911 carousel, a huge amphitheatre, the famous Starlight Ballroom which hosted such great bands as the Dorsey Brothers. Gradually, thrill rides were added and the 'picnic park' became a full-fledged amusement park. A recent addition, the "Boulder Dash" roller coaster has been rated the number 1 wooden roller coaster in the world. |
Other
popular features include the annual Halloween "Haunted
Graveyard" - the ghost thriller to top all ghost thrillers. Popular with the younger set is Garfield's Circus World. Including many amusement park style rides but scaled down for the younger visitors, the Circus includes real circus style attractions as well. Another feature is the schedule of live shows including "The Legends of Magic" and a real game show, "Yucks for Bucks". For more information we suggest you visit their web site at LakeCompounce. |
