Hearst State Historical Monument
Originally the residence of publisher William Randolph Hearst, this was his unofficial retreat where he frequently entertain his many rich and famous guests. Nick-named the Enchanted Hill, Hearst's Castle became a virtual museum and art gallery housing some of the finest art from around the world. Some of this art is on display and is viewable by visitors to the site.

Famous for its indoor swimming pools (one replicating a Roman bath) and exquisite marble work, the Hearst Castle, as it is popularly known, is a must see for visitors to California. It is about 31 miles north of San Luis Obispo on CA state highway 1. Several modes of transportation are available but most visitors use automobile.
The Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument is now part of the California State Parks System. Tours are offered daily. For information and reservations phone (toll-free) 800-444-4445. Web site: hearstcastle
