Bakersfield CA
(
Sector E-6 of the CA-NV Map)

About a hour's drive out Highway 178 in a little community named Bodfish is the Silver City Ghost Town. Carefully restored, we think you will find it quite interesting. (see Bodfish).

In Bakersfield, proper, are two museums: the California Living Museum (10500 Alfred Harrell Hwy off Hwy 178) and the Kern County Museum (3801 Chester Ave).

California Living Museum - Kind of a combination zoo-museum showcasing native wildlife, plants and minerals. Picnic facilities provided. Admission about $3.50. Phone 661-872-2256 for information.

Kern County Museum - a campus of 56 buildings housing a wide range of exhibits depicting life in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. Admission about $5. Phone 661-852-5000 for information.
